Game Notes NSH vs EDM

Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan) at Nashville Predators (Head Coach: Peter Laviolette)

NHL Game #762, Bridgestone Arena, 2017-02-02 06:00:00PM (GMT -0700)

Predators 2-0

Referees: Garrett Rank, Eric Furlatt
Linesmen: Bevan Mills, Ryan Galloway

Three Stars: Pekka Rinne; Viktor Arvidsson; Ryan Johansen

  • Blech. Not much to say, is there? Too little, too late, too few players willing to pay the price to get to the front of the Preds net.
  • Oh well, every team has its ups and downs, and did anyone seriously believe this team was a 100+ pt team? Better to concentrate on making the playoffs, which means this little losing streak (and the spotty effort that caused it) need to end PDQ.
  • Not much to read from the fancystats – they looked OK but that was score effects. The pushback came after the Oilers were down 2-0.
  • And the only line that was really going was the McDavid line; the others had their moments but were not consistently good. Maybe extra props for the Letestube line, which was solid in limited minutes.
  • For defensemen, the KlefLar pair was good offensively and poor defensively, Davidson Benning were good defensively but not really very effective on the attack, and Seksy Russell (again) struggled at both ends.
  • The Predators chased matchups more intensely than most teams do. Interesting that PK did not face McDavid much, that was a big thing vs MTL last year and PK (with the help of the refs) shut McDavid down pretty effectively.
  • With the Jets, Flames, Nashville, and LA all making some upward moves of late, gotta do better in Carolina.
