*** Exciting News ***

Starting in March, 2016, I will be writing analytics articles for BeerLeagueHeroes. Please check out the site at http://www.beerleagueheroes.com! Also you can buy one of those cool 16-bit player t-shirts there.

*** Thank you, we now return to our regularly scheduled biography ***

Born and raised in Edmonton, I’m an Oilers fan, and have been since about 1978.  True story: I lived about 500 ft from Peter Pocklington, and went to school with his stepdaughter.

I live in Calgary now, which makes my Oiler fandom burn even more brightly.  When I’m not reminiscing about the glory days, my wife and three sons, not to mention my job running an energy services company, keep me hopping.

For the last zillion days, I’ve been posting regularly as “G Money” over at lowetide.ca.  Rex Libris interviewed me about this blog, and LT posted it: http://lowetide.ca/2015/05/15/g-money/.  Cool, huh!

I’m a numbers guy, so naturally I found the “new” hockey fancystats movement to be quite interesting.

As a former programmer, I started tinkering with Python just to keep those old neurons from fading into oblivion.

It wasn’t long until I connected the two, and went from checking numbers to crunching numbers.  Now I’ve got some interesting stuff built up, and logically I should make it available somewhere, especially the masses of data I’ve been painstakingly building up.

So here I am, here it is, hope you find it useful.

If you want to contact me with questions, comments, etc. outside of the comments section of the blog, you can DM me on Twitter at @OilersNerdAlert, or email me at gmoney@coolsite.net.

Recorded for posterity … a couple of bets I’ve made:

1. On the reversion of Sean Monahan’s shooting percentage, with dashingsilverfox:

DSF wins if Monahans sh% is > 12% next year (2015-2016 season), minimum 40 games played (DSF to verify this last point in case he remembers different).

I win if Monahans sh% is 12% or less.

Terms: One bottle of 10 y.o. Talisker vs two bottles of Osoyoos Larose, shipped or ready for pickup to the others locale.

2. On the future of goalies, a bet with AsiaOil:

a. that within 2 years (end of 2016-2017 season), Scrivens is back to being an above average to elite NHL goalie (call it .917 or above all sits, or .922 EV, adj sv%)
b. that within 2 years (end of 2016-2017 season), Cam Talbot is an elite NHL goalie (.920 AS and .925 EV, adj)
c. that by end of next season (2015-2016), Jhonas Enroth is established as a legitimate NHL starter (similar to Scrivens’ projected numbers)
d. that by end of next season (2015-2016), Karri Ramo is established as a backup and not a starter (.915 or lower all sits)

(In cases where two numbers are supplied and they do not confirm each other, I propose that adjusted EV sv% takes precedence)

Terms: $5 for each point, as a donation to Allan Mitchell’s blog lowetide.ca

  1. Came across your blog and glad that I did. I am excited to see what info you got for us. I am an avid hockey fan but also a fan of business entrepreneurs like Daryl Katz. I believe that he is going to take the team to the next level. He is by far one of the most successful businessmen in North America. Check out this link for more info about his current business dealings. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/with-rexall-deal-owner-daryl-katz-free-to-refocus-business-empire/article29006191/
