G49 2017-01-21 Completely comprehensive carnage in Calgary

Game Notes CGY vs EDM

Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan) at Calgary Flames (Head Coach: Glen Gulutzan)

NHL Game #700, Scotiabank Saddledome, 2017-01-21 08:00:00PM (GMT -0700)

Oilers 7-3

Referees: Chris Lee, Dave Lewis
Linesmen: Brad Kovachik, Brian Mach

Three Stars: Laurent Brossoit; Jordan Eberle; Oscar Klefbom

Today’s game summary shall be completed in alliterative fashion, because alliteration always alleviates angst (allegedly).

  1. Sleppy’s slick slapper scores
  2. Testu tricks tendy to tally
  3. Eberle executes with evil effect
  4. McDavid makes mincemeat of Monahan’s mates
  5. Eberle electric, extends Edmonton’s edge
  6. Klefbom creates, castigates corrupt Tkachuck, Kelly and Kypreos cry
  7. Nuge negates nferno with neutralized net knock-in

A few other non-alliterative thoughts!

  • Nice to see Ebs get that damn monkey off his back.
  • Still worried about Looch.
  • Nugey at the top of the Corgi charts and he did have a whale of a game.
  • Connor McDavid remains ridiculously dangerous, but he’s really struggled in the possession game the last few weeks. The NHL is trying to adapt to him I think, so there’s also some game adjustment needed from him I suspect.
  • Good to see a sturdy game from LB – hope this is an ongoing thing, because ol’ Dad-Bot needs some rest.
  • Solid game from Davidson/Benning and Larsson/Klefbom. Seksy Russell struggled pretty badly this game. (Check the rink maps if you’re part of the Kris Army and don’t want to believe me).
  • The fancystats in this game obviously show a big tilt to the Flames, and they don’t really lie – the Flames did have the edge in shots, chances, etc. But you have to take that with a huge grain of salt when you score three goals on your first three shots. The predictive value of the shot metrics for this game kind of get distorted by that, just the reality of it.
