G32 2016-12-13 Blue Jackets wear Oilers like a dirty shirt

Game Notes EDM vs CBJ

Columbus Blue Jackets (Head Coach: John Tortorella) at Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan)

NHL Game #440, Rogers Place, 2016-12-13 07:00:00PM (GMT -0700)

Blue Jackets 3-1

Referees: TJ Luxmore, Ian Walsh
Linesmen: Kiel Murchison, Steve Miller

Three Stars: Sergei Bobrovsky; Sam Gagner; Tyler Pitlick

  • Oilers looked solid until the make-up-call penalties in the middle of the 2nd, at which point the Jackets came back hard – you can see the switch being flipped in the gameflow.
  • I buy the fatigue issue (I wrote about the Oilers pace of schedule before the season started – Oilers were worst, CBJ second worst last season; this season Oilers are 7th worst, CBJ has it easiest), but that was a little extreme. Suddenly the Oilers didn’t just slow down, they lost their entire will to live. Like seriously, check the gameflow – it’s nuts.
  • The Lucic highstick on McDavid just seemed to really fit this game.
  • Nice to see Sammy Gagner doing well – always cheered for him, too bad it didn’t work out here, glad he’s finding some success. Just not against us, OK?
  • What will it take for the Oilers to get a fairly called game? I get the middle penalties after mis-calling the Lucic sh*t show. I get that. But after that? The refs get an assist on both the CBJ third goal by not calling a brutal takedown of RNH just prior, and the second for the PP dive. Meanwhile they call a super-weak penalty against RNH late. How do you interpret that other than they don’t want to risk an Oiler comeback? For far too many games the reffing makes me ill it’s so sickeningly bad.
  • Speaking of sickeningly bad, I’ve really really had enough of Remenda. C’mon already – he’s just so terrible. And you’ve got an excellent replacement in Debrusk just waiting. Man.
