G27 2016-12-04 Oilers driven Wild on scheduled loss night

Game Notes EDM vs MIN

Minnesota Wild (Head Coach: Bruce Boudreau) at Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan)

NHL Game #376, Rogers Place, 2016-12-04 07:30:00PM (GMT -0700)

Wild 2-1 (OT)

Referees: Jean Hebert, TJ Luxmore
Linesmen: Trent Knorr, Kiel Murchison

Three Stars: Devan Dubnyk; Jonas Gustavsson; Mikko Koivu

  • Was that a game or an episode of Walking Dead? Some zombies out there ….
  • Gustavsson looks like he has no idea what he’s doing, but he’s been getting the job done so far this year. Well, maybe until that losing goal. That was on Letestu, but Monster did not look good.
  • This was what we call a ‘scheduled loss’ – third game in four nights and second of a back-to-back. The record for teams in that situation in those games is not good, hence ‘scheduled’. Also zombies. Also loss.
  • It’s easy to talk trash, but the Oilers actually did a credible job I thought – the legs would have started burning halfway through the second period, especially after going to OT against a large and chippy ANA team the night before.
  • But the decision to have Letestu out there (and subsequently, Letestu’s decision making out there) will raise eyebrows for a while.
  • I have no problem with McDavid going through concussion protocol. The reason for irritation is that it’ s not applied often enough, not that it shouldn’t have been applied in this case.
  • Fancies: I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that the even raw Corsis and the vastly weaker danger weighted numbers were a direct result of the fatigue. Fighting to get to and defend the tough areas gets that much tougher. The danger chart hit my axis limit!
  • Slappy and Caligula led the forwards in the Corsis … I think that’s cool.
