G7 2016-10-26 Oilers put a cap in Washington

Game Notes EDM vs WSH

Washington Capitals (Head Coach: Barry Trotz) at Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan)

NHL Game #96, Rogers Place, 2016-10-26 07:30:00PM (GMT -0600)

Oilers 4-1

Referees: Tom Kowal, Brad Meier
Linesmen: Vaughan Rody, Bryan Pancich

Three Stars: Benoit Pouliot; Cam Talbot; Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

  • SIX AND ONE BABY!
  • The Oilers did a nice job of managing that game (other than a couple of tire fires), and the first Pou goal was a bit of a backbreaker, as the Caps pressed hard and then had it go against them. We’ve seen that play out lots of times against the Oilers, nice to see it in our favour!
  • Even with the early third goal, the pushback from the Caps was extremely well managed by the Oilers, much like they did in the game against Whip an Egg.
  • Win the game. Win the special teams. Win the EV shots battle. Maturity, skill, health, and poise. *kisses fingers*
  • Another brilliant effort from Talbot. If he, McDavid, and Klefbom stay healthy all year, this team will stay fun to watch.
  • Nice redemption game for Nuge, who has struggled. He was hard matched against Ovenchicken all night, and won the scoring battle 2-1. WOOOOOOOOOT!
  • Did it seem to you like McD was trying really hard to get Eberle a goal?
  • I’m seeing encouraging progress in Nurse’s game. Third pairing development instead of a first pairing firefight agrees with him – who knew?
  • Lander, Pitlick, Kassian got killed on the fancies tonight. By eye too.
  • Is this sustainable? Not this winning pace, no. But how about just winning a reasonable share of the games the rest of the way out? Maybe. My read of the fancystats yesterday was more optimistic than I’ve been for quite a while. I’ll say this: in one way, it doesn’t matter if it’s unsustainable, they can’t take the points away. And sometimes, ‘unsustainable’ sustains an entire season!
  • Nothing much of interest to point out in the fancystats, other than the curious result that only one of the goals were scored by the set lines! The rest were by blender.
