Game Notes EDM vs VAN

Vancouver Canucks (Head Coach: Willie Desjardins) at Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan)

NHL Game #1201, Rexall Place, 2016-04-06 05:00:00PM (GMT -0600)

Oilers 6-2

Referees: Tom Kowal, Jake Brenk
Linesmen: Brian Mach, John Grandt

Three Stars: Rexall Fans; Patrick Maroon; Connor McDavid

  • What a great way to say goodbye to such a storied building. Is it dusty in here? I think it’s really dusty in here.
  • Though it didn’t look good there at the start, did it? Thank Gords the team woke up from their pre-game nap early in the second period.  The game flow shows it was all Canucks until 5:00 into the second period, then all Oilers after that.  The entire fancystats deficit for the Oilers is from that first 25:00.
  • Nice that Yak scores in what is likely his last home game as an Oiler. Going to miss that kid.  Hall and Calder McDavid get three points.  Connor McCalder?  Calder McCalder?  Whatever, you know Panarin’s going to get it because “some reason, we’ll figure it out after.”
  • Terrific game as well for Nuge, tied with McDavid for the team lead in shot metrics – weird that he didn’t get any points.  The Hall/Drai/Pak line got shelled though, although I didn’t really notice them struggling much by eye. Their Danger metrics were much more even than their raw shot metrics, so might have been a matter of giving up a lot of long distance shots. Doesn’t matter as much when you get a goal and two apples!
  • Griffin Reinhart quietly went and had an outstanding game. CF% 58.3, DFF% 70.5, DFA/60 23.95 (Mendoza line is about 39).  He only had a little time against the Sedins, but when he did face them, his pair completely shut them down – nary a shot attempt.  Fayne on the other hand, struggled something fierce.
