G79 2016-03-28 Oilers vs officials (Ducks were there too)

Game Notes EDM vs ANA

Anaheim Ducks (Head Coach: Bruce Boudreau) at Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan)

NHL Game #1137, Rexall Place, 2016-03-28 07:00:00PM (GMT -0600)

Ducks 2-1

Referees: Justin St. Pierre, Marc Joannette
Linesmen: Mark Wheler, Brandon Gawryletz

Three Stars: John Gibson; Taylor Hall; Nail Yakupov

  • Offside?  Sure, whatever. That call was par for the course. Just add it to the massive list of blatant uncalled penalties on Oiler players and borderline calls to Oilers players. Why shouldn’t the linesmen get in on the fun?
  • Oilers deserved better I’d say.  Some of the dominating fancystats were score effects, but not the whole story given it was only a two then a one goal lead.
  • Yak scoring warms my heart. If it doesn’t warm your heart, you are a MONSTER.
  • Nice rebound game from Seksy Fayne – check out their rink map!  A very solid game from Reinhart and Nurse (and to a lesser extent, Oesterle, who got a little bit mauled against a big team).  The Reinhart Nurse duo was, surprisingly, rock solid. Clendening was terrible, and had the primary assist on the winning goal for the Ducks – but you know that already. Ouch.
  • Clen didn’t see a shift after mid-3rd, but not sure if that was an injury or TMc just frustrated with the Return of The Jultz.
  • The McDavid line, though it had some buzz, did not do well possession or danger wise for the second game in a row.  Their raw shot attempts were decent, but their Dangerous Fenwicks were very poor, suggesting they weren’t generating much in the way of danger, or perhaps giving up a lot of danger.

Check out the new viz in the “How the Players Did” section! Every player/pair/line, sorted by shot attempts +-, with DangerousFenwick laid over top.

  1. I believe, but cannot yet prove, that score effects carry forward when a lead shrinks from two or more goals to one goal, and that gameplay therefore differs from a regular one goal deficit. Anything in your buckets of data that would prove or disprove this theory?
