G73 2016-03-16 Oilers give St Louis the Blues

Game Notes EDM vs STL

St. Louis Blues (Head Coach: Ken Hitchcock) at Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan)

NHL Game #1049, Rexall Place, 2016-03-16 07:30:00PM (GMT -0600)

Oilers 6-4

Referees: Dave Jackson, Jon McIsaac
Linesmen: Trent Knorr, Bryan Pancich

Three Stars: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins; David Backes; Connor McDavid

  • WE BEAT THE BLUES!  What, you knew that already?  Ah, never mind.
  • Closer than it should have been! You kind of think the Oil should have scored on the major to salt it away, but when you’ve already gone 4 for 5, it’s probably wishful thinking…
  • Nice game for Testtube – two goals! Though the second one was all Hendricks being a character guy.
  • The EV possession was heavy in the Blues favour, but a lot of that was score effects. That’s what happens when you get torched on the PP.
  • What the heck game was I watching?? After letting everything against the Oilers go in the first (and two ticky tack calls for the Blues), the refs started calling the blatant ones in the second. Did they get embarrassed or something? AND the Oilers *scored* on the PP! Multiple times! Astonishing.
  • AND though they put the whistles away in the third, at least they called a five minute major for a dangerous attack on an Oiler. How many of those have been either ignored or called a minor? (In fairness, Hendricks did the same thing to Ekblad and didn’t get called – but that’s kind of the exception that proves the rule)
  • As far as defenders go, Reinhart Oesterle had a strong start and weak finish, Seksy Fayne had a weak start and a strong finish, and Nurse and Clendening were not very good from start to finish. I put that mostly on Clenden, and my stats do too.
  • I think that was McDavid’s weakest 5v5 game stats-wise so far. He must have been all tuckered out from those multiple breakaways.
  • Nuge was huge.
