G72 2016-03-14 Oilers vs Nealville Pi-Day-ters

Game Notes EDM vs NSH

Nashville Predators (Head Coach: Peter Laviolette) at Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan)

NHL Game #1036, Rexall Place, 2016-03-14 07:00:00PM (GMT -0600)

Predators 3-2

Referees: Dan O’Rourke, Jean Hebert
Linesmen: Trent Knorr, David Brisebois

Three Stars: James Neal; Roman Josi; Leon Draisaitl

  • Screw you, James Neal.
  • Another somewhat rough game from the man they call LB. That’s two good, then two not so good. Only 50 or so more games and we’ll know what we’ve got!
  • I thought it was a terrific game from Oesterle and Reinhart.
    • I saw one end to end rush from Reinhart, where he moved in deep, set up a good chance, then was the first guy back to defend when the puck started moving the other way.
    • My buddy @WheatNoil was tracking zone exits and had Reinhart leading the Oiler D in that department.
    • But my stats didn’t like him much, mainly because of a rough few minutes in the third. He was actually doing really well til then.
    • The price may have been dear, but he has decent games on a regular basis and while it’s starting to get a little late, I’m not ready to close the book on him. He can play, he needs to find consistency.
  • My stats hated the Nuge Yak Korpi line.  After a run of four good games, Korpi is back to his usual spot trailing the team in 5v5 shot metrics and dragging his linemates into a pit with him.
  • Whatever injury or slump was ailing Dr. Drai in February appears to be healed.  Solid solid game.
  • [R-rated comment about the reffing deleted due to extreme profanity and descriptions of violence]
  • WHAT is it with this team and giving up a goal seconds after scoring one?!
  • Man, do we need a cannon from the point. Sekera is good, but he’s not that guy. Or maybe he just needs to start deliberately aiming AT shinpads, cause whatever he’s doing now is not working.
  • In any case – when you look at who the team is playing on defense, this was not a bad game at all. Really. It’s tiring to hear, it’s even more tiring to think … but GODDAMNIT CHIA GET US A REAL NHL DEFENSE.
