G65 2016-03-01 Edmontonians at Buffalonians

Game Notes BUF vs EDM

Edmonton Oilers (Head Coach: Todd McLellan) at Buffalo Sabres (Head Coach: Dan Bylsma)

NHL Game #944, First Niagara Center, 2016-03-01 05:30:00PM (GMT -0700)

Oilers 2-1 (OT)

Referees: Wes McCauley, Graham Skilliter
Linesmen: Derek Amell, Tony Sericolo

Three Stars: Connor McDavid; Robin Lehner; Cam Talbot

  • Could you write a better storyline?
  • So … Jack … about the whole “we’re playing the Oilers, not McDavid” thing …
  • Lost in the McGlory: another terrific game from TAL-BOT
  • Solid game from Nurse and Clen. Check out the shots-against rinkmaps for the defenders.
  • I admit that it’s *possible* that I may be biased, but I think the DangerFens reflect the game at the player level better than the raw numbers do.
  • That really was ELPH – exciting last place hockey – wasn’t it?

Each pairing (>2:00 EVTOI) is shown, along with how the individuals on that pairing did without each other on the ice. The axes show DangerousFenwick rates for and against. Note the reversed DFA axis. This lets the chart read naturally, where bottom left is bad and top right is good The dotted line shows the breakeven line.

Rink Maps

Solid game from Nurse and Clen. I thought Nurse was solid (and intimidating) all game.

  1. G, by “even strength” do you really mean “5v5”? naturalstattrick had the EV shots at 34-31, inc 3-0 in OT. (Note: the last of these was actually 4v4 not 3v3)
