Game Notes EDM vs OTT

NHL Game # 900 (Season 20152016)
  • Oilers were satisfied after that last beatdown, Ottawa was angry.  It showed.
  • Statistically, visually, results-wise, that was likely Jultz’s worst game of the season.  The rink maps and gameflows are appalling.
  • Excellent game from Oesterle – and most of the D corps other than Jultz, actually.
  • The gameflow shows a major ‘too little too late’ comeback, which makes the fancystats look better than they really were for most of the game.  Pressure doesn’t help if you don’t score and your casual play gives up odd man rushes, and lazy backchecking lets them score on every one.
  • TMc was mad after the game.  Clearly Schultz was a key target of his ire, and understandably so.
  • I think those Senators mascots are terrifying.

Game at a Glance

The fourth OTT goal is hidden under the penalty marker. That’s how little time it took them to score the EN shortie.

Defense Pairings WOWY

Testing out a new chart! Each pairing (>2:00 EVTOI) is shown, along with how the individuals on that pairing did without each other on the ice. The axes show DangerousFenwick rates for and against. Note the reversed DFA axis. This lets the chart read naturally, where bottom left is bad and top right is good. The dotted line shows the breakeven line.

Good Lord, that 2-19 pairing was a tire fire.

Game Flows

Rink Maps

Terrific game from Oesterle. The Oilers are loaded to the gills with third pairing D. Too bad they have to play first and second pairing so often.
